Niko

Niko is a four-year-old Maltese with a very sweet and gentle nature. He is wonderful with children and very friendly with adults, including strangers. He enjoys being petted, loves sitting on your lap, and is generally a calm little dog who is happy both receiving affection and spending time on his own.
At the same time, Niko struggles with significant anxiety. He is very alert and barks when someone comes home, when he hears movement in the house (such as footsteps on the stairs), or when the doorbell rings. Outside, he reacts strongly to other dogs and can behave aggressively toward them. Because of his small size, this is manageable, but it is something to be aware of.
His anxiety also shows itself indoors: when he becomes stressed, for example when putting on his leash, he urinates out of nervousness. Training and guidance have been tried, but his anxiety remains a consistent challenge.
Niko currently lives with two Golden Retrievers. While he is playful with them and enjoys interacting, the busy environment seems to overwhelm him. We truly believe his anxiety is largely influenced by his surroundings.
For this reason, we feel Niko would thrive best in a calm home where he is the only dog and can receive consistent, focused attention. A home with children could work very well for him, as he genuinely loves kids.
This decision has been made with Niko’s well-being at heart. We are looking for a loving, patient home where he can feel safe, secure, and finally relax into himself.
